The Department of Africana Studies at Brooklyn College the City University of New York invites candidates to apply for a tenure track Assistant Professor - Caribbean Studies Social Scientist beginning in the Fall of 2015. Applicants should specialize in contemporary Caribbean politics or societies, Caribbean migration to the United States, and Caribbean communities in the United States.
The candidate may teach courses in our department that are cross-listed with the Political Science Department, courses that are part of the degree requirements for the Caribbean Studies Program, and at least one course in the College's general education curriculum. In addition the candidate may participate in the emerging Urban Studies program.
The Africana Studies Department treats Africa and its diaspora in the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America with equal depth. Our focus on the Caribbean reflects our commitment to the borough and its high percentage of migrants from the English, Spanish, and French Caribbean. The majority of the College's students of African descent are from the Caribbean.
The successful candidate would perform teaching, research, publication, and curricular development in his/her areas of expertise.
- Ph.D. in the Social Sciences (Political Science or Sociology) required by the time of appointment
- A demonstrated history of engagement with their academic field, their institution, and their students
- A demonstrated proficiency in quantitative methodologies is preferred
