The Department of History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies at North Dakota State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor to begin on August 16, 2015.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Early American History, as well as courses in other spheres of departmental emphasis where appropriate; conducting research; and engaging in service.
The teaching load in our department is 2/3. Our teaching and research specialties range from public history, the Great Plains and the U.S. West to environmental, civil rights, and Gilded Age social history, and from early modern Europe to contemporary Eastern Europe, the Ottoman Empire, Southeast Asia, China, and the Aztec and Atlantic worlds. Our faculty are active researchers committed to excellent teaching; the maintenance of a positive and constructive departmental climate; and the promotion of vigorous intellectual life on campus. The department offers BA, BS, and public history degrees for undergraduates, as well as Masters degrees and PhDs in a variety of fields.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications:
*PhD in Early American history by start date
*Effective oral and written communication skills
*Active research agenda appropriate to a PhD-granting department in a land-grant, Carnegie-RU/VH university
*Evidence of effective teaching at the college level
Preferred qualifications:
*Competence in American Indian History or indigenous studies sufficient to teach in the field
*Competence in Public History sufficient to teach in the field
*Expertise in colonialism that is international in scope, comprising North America, the Caribbean, or the Atlantic World
*Scholarly publications or the equivalent in area of specialization
