Central Asian Religious Studies under the auspices of CERES (Center for Religious Studies, Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, invites applications for a part-time (50%), post-graduate assistant position.
The position would begin September 11 - December 18,2014 – as a replacement for maternity leave and will respectively be renewed until March 31, 2015 due to parental leave.
The ideal candidate will have familiarity with at least one language of Central Asian / East Asian cultures (Tibetan, Chinese, Mongol, Turkish etc.), in addition to fluency in the English language, and will be able to traverse disciplinary boundaries to connect the study of religions to other cultural aspects within the research program of the Käte Hamburger Kolleg „Dynamics in the History of Religions between Asia and Europe“. The research consortium focuses on the formation and expansion of religions, the mutual permeation of religious traditions and their densifications into the complex figurations called 'world religions.' Regionally, the research covers these phenomena in Europe and Asia. The academic goal is to establish and test a typology of contacts of religions and an overarching theory regarding the transfer of religions.
Furthermore preference will be given to candidates with competence in academic self-administration and in applying for third-party funded research projects – potentially to secure additional funding for continued employment.
Applicants must hold a master degree at the time of appointment.
