History Associates incorporated, a national historical consulting firm based in Rockville, Maryland, has an immediate need for an experienced historian and project manager to assist our growing litigation research service line. The successful applicant will possess at least 5 years of demonstrated experience as a consulting and/or expert historian in connection with environmental litigation or other legal matters. Extensive familiarity with archival research and methods required, preferably U.S. National Archives orbit. Applicant must have demonstrated successful experience developing proposals and, deliverables.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist Director to develop new business leads and cultivate existing client relationships
- Manage projects and work collaboratively with junior historians
- Assist Director with business development and administrative tasks
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in History
- Strong knowledge of and experience with research at U.S. National Archives, with ability to master applicable contextual background
- Strong knowledge of environmental research which includes; asbestos, watershed research, toxic tort
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment with both internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to manage complex research assignments and large project teams
- In-depth experience producing proposals, analytical deliverables and presentations in a business and legal setting
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects within established schedules and budgets
- Flexibility to travel within the U.S. to conduct research
Preferred Qualifications
- 5-10 years of experience working as a consultant or expert historian in legal/litigation settings
- Strong working knowledge of Word and Excel
- Experience in targeted marketing of historical services to professional communities
- Strong knowledge of military history
