JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assistant Professor of History specializing in Modern Europe and the World whose teaching and research interests embrace one of the major regions of the Indian Ocean Basin (East Africa, South Asia, Southwest Asia, or Southeast Asia). The position is a full-time, 10 month, tenure-track and salaried post within the Department of History and Government starting in August, 2014. The successful candidate will join 11 full-time professors in and teach Western Civilization survey courses (pre and post Renaissance) and upper division classes in Modern European History and World/Comparative History, to include courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. Research area is open.
Faculty holding this position will normally teach four courses each fall and spring semester. Summer teaching assignments may be requested but are not required. Course assignments will typically involve multiple survey sections of Western Civilization each fall and spring semester, and a rotation of upper division and service classes that support the baccalaureate program in History. Ability or willingness to teach online required. A willingness to teach an introductory course in World Religions is desirable. Cameron University faculty are required to advise students, serve on departmental and university committees, assist with assessment efforts at both the program and the general education level, perform public and professional service, and produce scholarship sufficient to meet department and university promotion and tenure requirements. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in History with evidence of significant teaching and scholarly potential.
- Ability or willingness to teach online. Candidates who are ABD may be considered at the rank of Instructor.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in History with extensive teaching experience at the university level, a proven record of excellence in classroom and online instruction,
- Demonstrated record of achievement in curricular and course design, scholarship, and student advisement.
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with education and experience.
