CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION:
Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Development Grants Director will lead and expand the College's grants program which encompasses government grants (federal, state, and city) along with corporate and foundation grants. The Grants Director plans, implements, and directs diverse short and long term strategies to support the submission of grant applications; actively recruits college staff for participation in the grants process, consistent with the College's mission; trains grant applicants in proposal writing; facilitates inter-disciplinary responses to specialized requests for proposals; drafts proposals; acts as liaison between the College, Research Foundation, and the sponsoring agency or corporation in completing the application process; and coordinates with other College and University offices concerned with similar matters and on project proposals involving more than one institution.
Fundraising priorities at Queensborough Community College include faculty development and pedagogy; high impact learning practices such as undergraduate research, collaborative learning, and academic service learning to increase retention and graduation rates among Queensborough's diverse student body; student scholarships and support; and the college's three cultural centers (Kupferberg Holocaust Center, QCC Art Gallery, and Performing Arts Center).
Major responsibilities:
-Raise grant funding for the college's programs and innovative initiatives.
-Cultivate faculty and staff to engage in grant activities.
-Assist grant applicants in developing project ideas and budgets.
-Manage the development of grant proposals that impact the college as a whole.
-Write institutional grant proposals.
-Communicate grant opportunities and accomplishments within the college.
-Disseminate grant awards and accomplishments to obtain local and national publicity/recognition.
-Lead a customer-oriented office for both pre-award and post-award grant activities.
-Lead an office that acts as a clearinghouse for proposal submissions.
-Negotiate terms, budgets, and budget revisions with funding agencies.
-Report regularly to college officials.
-Act as a resource and, at times, liaison between the program and the sponsoring agency or corporation throughout implementation and progress of the program.
-Serve on committees and convene groups as needed.
-Coordinate with the CUNY Research Foundation in assuring all mandated procedures and policies are followed.
-Recruit, hire, train, direct, monitor, evaluate, and reward competent staff; mentor and give guidance to staff as appropriate; oversee the supervision of staff; determine work plans, set goals and objectives, and determine performance standards; evaluate employee performance against written standards; and correct performance as needed.
-Participate in relevant professional activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
-A documented history of obtaining grant awards
-Experience in and knowledge of the field of grants proposal writing and sponsored program or research administration
-Knowledge of various government agency and corporate sponsored program requirements and practices
-Knowledge of the research regulatory environment and the requirements for compliance
-Experience in policy review, data collection, statistical evaluation of data, and developing strategies for conveying results to users
-Knowledge about legal requirements and institutional policy regarding human subject research, laboratory animal protocols, and bio-safety procedures
-Skilled in negotiating contracts and budget modifications
-Experience in working independently and leading a team
-Experience with setting priorities and adjusting strategies to changing needs
-Experience with communicating effectively with diverse constituencies; explaining complex concepts to professional college staff, college officials, and CUNY Research Foundation administrators; and listening and responding appropriately to the concerns/ideas of others
-Experience managing full time and part time staff
-Excellent writing, communication, and computer skills
-Detail and deadline oriented
-Experience working collaboratively with faculty

-Work effectively with staff, associates, and internal and external constituents
-Resolve sponsor concerns, making timely and effective decisions
COMPENSATION:
Commensurate with experience.
