Junior Professorship in North American History (salary grade W 1)
The successful applicant will be required to assume responsibilities in research and teaching in North American History.
Appointment requirements are governed by Article 102a of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz).
The successful candidate will have a PhD with an excellent dissertation in North American History, experience in university teaching and research (preferably internationally) as well as experience with sponsored research. A research focus in North American History before 1850 is desirable. She or he will be familiar with aspects of Gender Studies and have an excellent command of English and German.
The appointee will be prepared work in an interdisciplinary environment with colleagues on the development and management of research projects at the John F. Kennedy Institute, the Graduate School of North American Studies, the Center for Area Studies, and the Friedrich Meinecke Institute while developing and teaching courses at the John F. Kennedy Institute and the Graduate School of North American Studies.
The junior professor will be appointed as a civil servant for an initial period of three years. Provided that her or his performance is thereafter evaluated positively, employment may be extended for three more years.
