The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin (Department III, Artefacts, Action, Knowledge, Director: Prof Dagmar Schäfer) announces
six visiting scholar fellowships for up to 12 months
to take place in the period 1 September 2014 to 31 August 2016. Outstanding scholars
including those on sabbatical leave from their home institutions are invited to apply.
Visiting scholars receive an honorary commensurate with experience for their period of
residence. They will also receive a travel grant to enable participation in group events
during the period of affiliation.
Applications from candidates in all fields relevant to the history of science and
technology are welcome. Research projects should address issues within Department III’s
project “Histories of Planning” and connect to one of the working groups: (1) “Scale and
Scope”, (2) “The Art of Judgment”. For further information see

Visiting fellows are expected to take part in the scientific life of the institute, to advance
their own research project, and to actively contribute to the working group activities
during their period of affiliation.
The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science is an international and
interdisciplinary research institute (http://www.mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de/en/index.html). The
colloquium language is English; it is expected that candidates will be able to present their
own work and discuss that of others fluently in that language.

- Curriculum vitae including list of publications
- Research proposal on a topic related to the project (750 words maximum)
- Sample of writing (i.e. article or book chapter
