Location: | New Jersey, United States |
Position: | Fellow |
Hollybush Fellowship, Rowan University: The Hollybush Institute and the Honors Concentration of Rowan University are seeking a professionally trained historian with interests in the Cold War for a part-time Fellowship to begin September 1, 2014 and last until June 15, 2015. Preference will be given to those who hold a PhD, but candidates should at minimum be ABD. The successful applicant will provide evidence that they will be successful in the classroom. The Hollybush Fellow will receive office space and computer/phone access, access to the University’s libraries and databases, and a salary totaling $12,000. There will also be an opportunity to supplement the salary by teaching a summer course. The Fellow will have the opportunity to share in-progress research with faculty members and students in the History Department’s works-in-progress seminar. The Fellowship is inspired by Hollybush, the 1849 mansion built by Thomas Whitney in Glassboro. Located on the campus of Rowan University, Hollybush mansion played an important role in the history of the Cold War, as the location of the renowned 1967 Glassboro Summit between President Lyndon Johnson and Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin.
In each semester of the 2014-15 academic year, the Hollybush Fellow is expected to teach one upper-level course for honors students and history majors interested in the Cold War. The Fellow will design the course to match their areas of expertise. Throughout the year, the Fellow also will be expected to collaborate with faculty in ongoing strategic planning and development related to expanding the Hollybush Institute at Rowan University. As this is a part-time fellowship, the committee will be flexible with the successful candidate’s schedule. Candidates should send a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, one letter of reference, graduate school transcripts (or an unofficial transcript with a list of courses completed in graduate school), and other supporting materials. The committee will begin reviewing applications on April 30, 2014.
