The University of the South invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in Arabic language and culture to begin August 2014.
The successful candidate should be able to teach introductory and intermediate levels of language, as well as courses in Arabic literatures, cultures, and cinemas, or interdisciplinary courses on Arabic cultures that draw on the humanities, social sciences, and other fields. The teaching load is three courses per academic year (1/2). We seek candidates who have a strong commitment to teaching as well as demonstrated interest and competence in innovative language pedagogy and instructional technologies. The candidate will be expected to help us build the growing Arabic Studies program at Sewanee, and to contribute to the activities and initiatives of the Mellon Globalization Forum whose goals include enhancing Sewanee’s international profile, as well as equipping students with skills necessary for navigating the globalized world.
The University of the South comprises a highly-regarded College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and a distinguished School of Theology. It is an institution of the Episcopal Church that welcomes individuals of all backgrounds. It is located on a striking, 13,000-acre campus on Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau.
