Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Modern Chinese History

Join a unique British University in China. The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) was the first Sino-foreign university to open its doors in China. This award winning campus offering a UK style education has grown to establish a student body of over 6,000 in just 8 years.
The successful candidate will be a specialist in modern Chinese history and have a PhD (or close to completion). Applications by specialists in PRC international relations are particularly welcome. Knowledge of other Asian and Pacific histories would be an added benefit. It is envisaged that the successful candidate would contribute to the new ‘Virtual China Centre’ at UNNC.
In addition to strengthening the School’s research profile through a series of strong publications and a willingness to contribute to collaborative research projects with colleagues at UNNC, on Nottingham’s other two campuses and elsewhere the successful candidate will be expected to teach flexibly in a range of existing and new modules on themes such as modern China, Chinese foreign relations, the Cold War, and trans-Pacific relations, to both undergraduate and graduate students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and contribute to the administration of the School. Experience of working in Chinese archives and/or other primary-source research collections and an ability to guide students in their use for research purposes, would also be an advantage.
Salary will be within the range £33,230 - £44,607 per annum depending on skills and experience (salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance). In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments.
This post is available from 1 September 2014 and will initially be offered on a fixed-term contract with the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China for a period of up to five years. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement.
