Include teaching introductory survey courses in World Civilizations, Western Civilizations, United States History, and other courses as needed; teaching large group instruction; teaching evening courses as assigned; developing curriculum; teaching distance learning or on-line teaching; serving on college and district committees, identifying and recommending potential adjunct faculty to teach classes; assisting in evaluating adjunct instructors; preparing program review reports; participating in the accreditation process; conducting and analyzing Student Learning Outcomes assessments; and otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required.
Include an earned master’s degree in history; OR bachelor’s degree in history AND master’s degree in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women’s studies, social science, or ethnic studies; OR a valid California Community College Credential; OR the equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency); AND demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Experience teaching World Civilizations, Western Civilizations, and United States History courses at the Community College or University level; ability to develop and teach lower division courses in gender or ethnic studies and non-western history (outside of the United States and Europe); experience with educational technologies (computer, personal response systems, on-line learning systems); experience participating on committees; working with students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; experience with program review and accreditation process; knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals; and extent of related work and professional experience and potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth.
Conditions of Employment: 177 duty days per year.
Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary is $51,992 – $78,276 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $1,945 is available. In addition, the district offers an attractive fringe benefit package including health, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance for employees. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).
Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents, a selection committee will determine the candidates that meet the highest degree of desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview.
The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services and Campus President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the Campus President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
