FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise.Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
As a community college in the CUNY system, our students primarily take general education and lower division courses for university transfer. Contractual teaching load is 27 contact hours for the academic year (typically 4 to 5 course sections per semester); summer optional. The candidate will teach courses in Anatomy & Physiology, General Biology and/or Microbiology, both lecture and lab, Environmental Science, and Environmental Health. Faculty on Assistant Professor tenure track receive reassigned time to pursue scholarship. Participates in departmental and college activities including committees, course and program assessment, curriculum development and preparation of grants.Provides academic support and advisement for students. For faculty in Assistant Professor rank, continued scholarly activities are required for tenure and promotion. Some evening or weekend teaching may be required. Position to start Fall 2014 semester.
The Biological Sciences and Geology Department offers programs of study in Health Sciences, Pre-Professional Studies, Pre-Nursing Curriculum, Medical Office Assistance, Geology, and required biology courses in Massage Therapy. The department's facilities include 15 state-of-the art laboratories with multi-media projection equipment, as well as two laboratories dedicated to research. QUALIFICATIONS
For Assistant Professor:
Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree in Biology or related disciplines from a regionally accredited institution is required. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Strong preference for candidates with a specialization in Anatomy and Physiology and basic core biological sciences. Preferred qualifications include: 1) college level teaching experience in Biological Sciences, with a strong preference for community college teaching experience; 2) scholarship and research interests in Biology; 3) research interests in teaching/learning innovation; 4) experience using instructional technology and cat dissection; 5) experience with student-centered and high-impact pedagogy (see http://www.qcc.cuny.edu/academies/high-impact-practices.html); 6) experience with course and/or program assessment; and 7) experience teaching diverse college student populations.
For Instructor:
Master's degree in area(s) of expertise, and/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
COMPENSATION
Instructor: $39,399 - $65,267
Assistant Professor: $42,873 - $74,133/$81,645
Initial appointment, commensurate with qualifications and experience, usually near the mid-point.
