The Columbus College of Art & Design invites applications for a full time Assistant Professor position in the History of Art and Design area of the Liberal Arts department.This core faculty rank position is to be filled for the 2014-15 academic year and thereafter. The position requires teaching a full time load of 12 hours (4 courses) per semester involving art and design history. Committee and College service are also required. Teaching assignments will largely be at the undergraduate level, but may include occasional graduate level courses.
We seek a colleague who is actively engaged in contemporary art and design worlds thought proven scholarship, curatorial practice or research. Recognizing the rich experience that active scholars and practitioners bring to our community we are interested in and supportive of ongoing and future work.
We value teachers who are excited about assisting young artists and designers as they develop their studio practice. We believe that art history and critical theory is most valuable and accessible to studio practitioners when it is presented in the context of their practice. We expect leadership in undergraduate and graduate programs, curriculum development, advising, and governance within the departments, college and field at large. The successful candidate will be expected to teach primarily design history courses covering a variety of topics and critical theory. The candidate should have strong experience in design history, but should also be able to cover other art history courses including freshman level art history surveys. Passion for teaching to undergraduate art/design majors
seeking a BFA is essential.
Qualifications required include a Ph.D. in Art History with design history focus, a record of professional activity, and teaching experience at the college level.
