The Department of Liberal Studies at Kettering University seeks applicants from any social science discipline (or disciplines) having the capacity to contribute to our strong liberal arts core. Kettering’s mission is to prepare students for lives of extraordinary leadership and service by linking transformative learning opportunities to rigorous academic programs in engineering, science, mathematics, and business. The primary teaching responsibility of this tenure-track assistant professor position is to promote critical reading, thinking, and writing skills in order to understand contemporary society, especially as they relate to ethics and leadership. Our core curriculum, required of all Kettering University students, includes such interdisciplinary courses as “Introduction to the Social Sciences” and the unique capstone course, “Senior Seminar: Leadership, Ethics and Contemporary Issues.” In addition to these courses, the successful candidate will be expected to develop upper-division electives in his/her area(s) of interest. Applicants must provide evidence of teaching excellence and a strong potential for scholarly accomplishment. Ph.D. in any social science discipline, such as sociology, political science, history or social psychology must be in hand by June 1, 2014. Appointment is contingent upon university-certified completion of all Ph.D. requirements. Starting in summer or fall term is negotiable.
