The Marywood University Department of Social Sciences seeks an Assistant Professor in American History (colonial, revolutionary, and civil war period) for a tenure-track appointment beginning August 2014. Ph.D. required by the time of appointment. Teaching responsibilities include surveys in US history to 1865 and US history since 1865 and upper level specialty courses in area of specialization. Thematic areas might include digital history, environmental history, immigration and labor history, economic history or other areas of teaching and research that complement the existing offerings. Comparative and transatlantic perspectives are also welcome. Applicants must provide evidence of scholarly potential as well as commitment to and success in teaching. Ability to teach in the area of economic history, although not required, would be a plus. Applicants with prior college teaching experience are preferred. Student advisement, commitment to scholarly activities, and participation in university, professional, and community service are expected.
