Western Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in World Religions/Buddhism beginning August 2014 at the rank of Faculty Specialist I, pending budgetary approval. Ph.D. in Comparative Religion or related field (or evidence of imminent award thereof) required in the area of Buddhism and Religions of the World with a preference for specialization in East Asian Buddhism (Japan/China) or Buddhism in the U.S. A further sub-specialization in religion and health/medicine is desirable. The successful candidate will have a firm grounding in the academic study of religion. The successful candidate will have a mastery of relevant research languages, ability to work in original sources, and fieldwork experience. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has placed WMU among the 76 public institutions in the nation designated as research universities with high research activity.
