Wasatch Academy, History
Full Time, Social Studies Instructor.
Institution Type: | Preparatory School |
Location: | Utah, United States |
Position: | Instructor |
Wasatch Academy, a college preparatory, co-educational, international, boarding school is seeking a full-time faculty position in the social studies department, starting in the Fall 2014. Primary duties will include a full six class teaching load, with an emphasis on global studies, transitional global studies (working with our international student body moving toward full English classes), Model United Nations, and perhaps an elective course. Duties would also include participating in monthly recreation teams with students, advising 6-8 students and corresponding with their parents, as well as other miscellaneous tasks as requested by our headmaster.
Wasatch Academy encourages a student-driven, project-based approach to education. Instructors work more in a facilitation role than in a direct lecture-oriented model. There are shared curriculum elements between the three courses. As a private high school, we can be very flexible in the type of content covered, and teachers are encouraged to focus on material they enjoy and feel comfortable teaching.
Teaching ability, willingness to experiment in the classroom, and fostering a love of learning among the students are primary qualities we seek in candidates. Evidence of such qualities in student evaluations or video reviews of lessons will be highly valued by the hiring committee. As a private school, retention of students year to year is a priority, and learners that love their classes are far more likely to become permanent members of our student body. Candidates should apply with a relevant degree in global studies, world history, or contemporary studies, though the specific focus of the degree is flexible. Development of class curricula for planned classes and the possible elective will take place over the Spring 2013 and summer periods. Current faculty are happy to assist with this process.
