The Underwood International College of Yonsei University invites applications for three full-time (tenure-track, pending approval) positions at the rank of Assistant Professor of History to teach at the international campus in Songdo, Incheon, located within the greater Seoul metropolitan region. Area of specialization is open, but those with interests in Global and Comparative History, Intellectual History, or who specialize in East or South East Asia, Africa, the Islamic World, or eras prior to 1600, are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates should hold a PhD in history at the time of appointment, have strong research credentials and a firm commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education.
Teaching responsibilities are between 6 and 9 credit hours (2 or 3 classes) per semester. The starting date is either March or September 2014. Yonsei University's Underwood International College is a highly competitive program at South Korea's most prestigious private university, and combines the intimate atmosphere and low student-faculty ratio of a liberal arts college with the resources of a major research university. All instruction is in English, and the student body represents over 47 different countries. As part of Yonsei University’s continuing effort to increase faculty diversity, we are only accepting applications from
non-Korean citizens or Korean citizens who have undergraduate and graduate degrees from institutions outside of Korea.
Interested applicants should send a c. v. and short (1 - 2 page) letter of application detailing research and teaching interests by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) before November 15, 2013. If you have not heard from us by December 1, 2013 then please assume that you have not been short-listed this time. Short-listed candidates will be asked to submit three letters of recommendation, a writing sample, and sample syllabi. Interviews will be conducted at the AHA Conference in Washington, DC and also by video conferencing. For additional information, please contact Prof. Paul Tonks (email@example.com).
