The State University of New York at New Paltz invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary and Digital Teaching and Scholarship beginning in Fall of 2014.
We seek an educator and scholar from the arts, humanities, or sciences whose scholarship incorporates interdisciplinary investigations between their area(s) of expertise and new media and technology. The ideal candidate’s work will encompass digital theories and practice in scholarship and in the classroom. We are particularly interested in the scholar/teacher who uses data visualization and design within his or her teaching and research. Other approaches could include, but are not limited to: textual analysis and corpus linguistics; data curation and mining; network analysis and social media; GIS; tool development.
The successful candidate will promote and contribute actively to innovative and collaborative interdisciplinary teaching and research between the arts, humanities and sciences across the academic units of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Science and Engineering, and Fine and Performing Arts. The new faculty member will be expected to teach three courses each semester and to direct graduate and undergraduate student research consistent with the interdisciplinary nature of the position. This position presents an opportunity to play a foundational role in a growing interdisciplinary collaboration at SUNY New Paltz between the arts, humanities, and sciences.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a terminal degree in the arts, humanities, and/or sciences or in a relevant technological field, and an active record of teaching and creative work appropriate to specialization. Exceptional ABD candidates with a firm completion date will be considered. Preference will be given to individuals with teaching and research profiles that include a clear and productive dialogue between at least two of the following: arts, humanities, and sciences. The ideal candidate will have experience with multiple fields and an ability to pursue transformative teaching and research in a comprehensive college setting. The successful candidate will also be expected to initiate and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration between faculty and students.
