Bush School of Government and Public Service

The Bush School of Government & Public Service, Texas A&M University’s academic college which serves as a graduate school of public and international affairs, continues to expand its faculty, programs and student enrollments, and to focus on key strategic initiatives.  Its two professional master’s degree programs in Public Service and Administration and in International Affairs are in the process of becoming distinct academic departments during the current academic year.  Each program attracts high caliber students from throughout the United States and abroad to study with an accomplished multidisciplinary faculty committed to teaching, research and civic engagement.  The School is also playing a key role in high priority multidisciplinary research at Texas A&M University that focuses on several grand challenges facing the nation: environmental policy and management, health policy and management, and strengthening democracy internationally.  The School expects to appoint one or more senior distinguished faculty members in these priority areas.  The Bush School encourages faculty scholarship through robust professional development opportunities and affiliated research institutes, and its substantial endowments provide both student scholarship assistance and faculty support through chairs and professorships.  Additional information is available at http://bush.tamu.edu.  The Bush School invites nominations and applications for multiple faculty positions effective no later than September 1, 2014, as enumerated below.

International Affairs

International Affairs Department Head.  The Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University invites nominations and applications for the position of Professor and Department Head of International Affairs, with related responsibilities for the academic operation of graduate certificate programs in Advanced International Affairs, National Security Affairs and China Studies.  The master’s program and its related certificate offerings seek to provide students with a superior professional education for careers in international affairs within government, international organizations or non-governmental organizations.  The 48 credit hour professional degree combines required and elective classes with a foreign language requirement, leadership and communication development, internship opportunities, and an integrative capstone research project.  The complementary graduate certificate programs provide 12 credit hours of transcripted and degree transferable courses delivered in a range of modalities on campus, online and/or in executive education format.  The department will also work closely with the Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs to foster policy-oriented research on international affairs.  The Bush School is a member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs and its faculty blend theory and practice in a research intensive graduate setting.

The duties of the Department Head encompass the functions normally required for the administration of graduate degree programs in a research university, including the supervision of curriculum development, review and revision; instructional activities and course scheduling; program planning and assessment; recruitment, review and development of the faculty; budget development and management; and student recruitment, admissions and counseling.  The successful candidate will assume a 10.5 month academic administrative appointment, normally for a four year renewable term, as a tenured professor of international affairs beginning as early as August 1, 2014, with the possibility of holding an endowed chair.  He or she will meet qualifications required of a tenured professor, including a Ph.D. in political science, economics or related social science discipline relevant to international affairs, an outstanding record of research and scholarship, demonstrated success in graduate level teaching, professional leadership in international affairs, and participation in public discourse on international affairs and foreign policy.  In addition, the successful candidate should have a substantial record of professional and university service, with a special emphasis on graduate education and research, and provide evidence of excellent leadership, communication and management skills demonstrated through leadership roles in universities, government, organizations or associations.  Successful academic administrative experience in higher education is preferred as is a demonstrated commitment to professional education and knowledge of diverse instructional modalities.

Public Service and Administration
