The Department of History, Political Science and Philosophy of Longwood University invites applications for a new tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in World History to begin in August 2014. The successful candidate will enhance and expand current offerings in Asian History and/or the history of Islam. Additional teaching field in European colonialism or experience in secondary education teacher preparation is desirable. The candidate will be expected to teach survey courses in World History and Western Civilization and upper-level courses in his/her area of expertise. Teaching load is four classes per semester. PhD in History required at time of appointment. College-level teaching experience is preferred. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarly activity, undergraduate teaching and research, advising of students, and university service.
Screening of applications will begin November 15, 2013 and will continue until the position is filled. We expect to conduct preliminary interviews at the American Historical Association meeting.
