The Department of History and Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Butler University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of Early America through 1877 to begin Fall 2014. Successful candidates will teach a mix of introductory and upper-division topics courses. Specialty open with a preference for broadly trained social, cultural, or political historians. Candidates with teaching or research interests in comparative colonialisms, the history of science, public history or museum studies are especially welcome.
We seek outstanding teacher-scholars, who are committed to innovative pedagogy and curriculum development, who are active researchers, and who enjoy mentoring students. Candidates should be enthusiastic about contributing to an interdisciplinary core curriculum in the liberal arts. The Department welcomes efforts to integrate historical and anthropological approaches and/or insights into courses.

Applicants should submit a letter of application, a CV, copies of graduate transcripts, a statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching effectiveness (including sample course syllabi and recent course evaluations), a sample of published work or other scholarly research in progress, and three letters of reference. Letters of reference should be sent under a separate cover.
