The Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant or tenured associate professor of leadership studies with a specialization in history or a related field. Although ABD’s will be considered, the successful candidate must have completed a Ph.D. in History or a related field by the August 2014 start date. An appointment at the associate professor level is possible for an outstanding candidate who has successfully obtained tenure at his or her current institution.
The Jepson School is a highly collaborative scholarly community with specialists in anthropology, literature, history, organizational behavior, politics, philosophy, religion and psychology. We seek applicants with the potential and desire to develop, from their disciplinary training, an active scholarly agenda that uses historical inquiry to illuminate or explore leadership processes, such as (but not limited to) the use of power, the role of human agency in shaping contingent events, and processes of social and historical change. Applicants should have the ability to teach and conduct research in an interdisciplinary liberal arts environment. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses that draw upon his or her broad training in history. We welcome applications from all historians, with a particular interest in candidates whose research will broaden students’ understanding of leadership. Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to, historical investigations of imperialism; Latin American, African, or Asian history; and gender studies. With the aim of educating students for and about leadership, the Jepson School offers a challenging liberal arts curriculum delivered by means of a rigorous and innovative pedagogy.
