Assistant Professor of History, Latin American History
Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | New York, United States |
Position: | Assistant Professor |
The History Department at SUNY Geneseo invites applications for a full time, tenure track position for an Assistant Professor in Latin American History (open subfields and time period) beginning August 2014.
Required qualifications: Ph.D. in history in hand at the time of appointment or expected by August 2014, evidence of a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, and evidence of scholarly potential.
Candidates should be prepared to teach a range of introductory- and upper-level undergraduate history courses, including an introductory survey on Latin American/Caribbean history intended for both history majors and general education students, specialized regional or topical courses, and seminars in historical research methods and/or historiography.
In addition to history courses, candidates will be expected to contribute to interdisciplinary general education courses by teaching sections of the College's First Year Writing seminar and the Western Humanities general education sequence. Candidates' courses in history will support the College's Latin American Studies minor and candidates will be encouraged to develop courses that support other interdisciplinary programs at the College.
Geneseo is advertising Latin America-related tenure track positions this year in Anthropology, Foreign Language, History, and Political Science. Although the individuals hired in these positions will have primary responsibility to their individual departments, it is expected that the possibilities for interdisciplinary work and the chance to develop a critical mass of students and faculty interested in Latin America will lead to productive research and teaching collaborations.
To apply, submit an online application at https://jobs.geneseo.edu with a cover letter that addresses teaching philosophy and experience, a cv, and evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g. sample syllabi, student evaluations or teaching observations).
Applicants should also arrange for academic transcripts and three letters of recommendation to be sent directly to Professor Justin Behrend, Department of History, 301 Sturges, SUNY Geneseo, 1 College Circle, Geneseo, NY 14454.
To ensure full consideration, complete applications should be received by November 1, 2013 and preliminary interviews will take place at the annual AHA meeting. All applicants are subject to criminal background checks.
