Assistant Professor, American and Public History. Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania seeks qualified candidates (PhD in hand by September 2014) for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in American and Public History to begin August 2014. Beyond the Public History requirement, all areas/eras of topical specialization will be considered. We seek above all a dynamic American Historian who can take a leadership role in the continued growth of our Public History program. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to and record of teaching excellence, a vigorous scholarly agenda, and either experience in or knowledge of one or more of the following sub-fields of public history: museum studies, historic preservation, oral history, local and Pennsylvania history, public archaeology, cultural resources management, and/or archival records management and preservation (including familiarity with digital preservation and history-related Web site development). In addition to directing the public history program, the successful candidate will teach six courses per year in Public History and introductory and elective courses in American History. Salary and benefits competitive.
