Research Associate – Shi’i Studies
Salary in the range £35,000 to £55,000 depending on experience
The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) in London has the object of promoting the scholarship and learning of Muslim cultures and societies, historical as well as contemporary, and a better understanding of their relationship with other societies and faiths.
The Department of Academic Research and Publications (DARP) at the Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) welcomes applications from scholars working in any area of Shi‘i studies to play a key role in its continuous expansion into the area of wider Shi‘i studies by providing effective leadership in both research and teaching. We welcome scholars with a record of publication and teaching with a focus on Shi‘i law, hadith, history and theology. Scholars working in any other area will also be welcomed depending on the quality of their past work and future prospects of research and publication.
The successful candidate will have an excellent track record in high quality publications and teaching with a focus on Shi’i Islam. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and s/he must have an excellent knowledge of Arabic or Persian and demonstrate strong experience of working with primary sources. Any other experience demonstrating the requisite skills will be considered. Relocation assistance is available.
