The Chicana/o Studies Program at California State University Channel Islands seeks applicants at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level in the area of Latino/Latina Health to begin in fall 2014.

CHS Mission Statement: Chicana/o Studies offers a curriculum that examines current and past experiences of Chicanas/os and other hemispheric Latino/a Americans whose origins exist south of the United States/Mexico and United States/Caribbean border. This B.A. degree places students at the center in the investigation of local issues in context with transborder questions and from interdisciplinary and comparative perspectives. The core courses at the lower and upper division level will provide majors with a solid training in Chicana/o Studies while providing them the opportunity to major, minor or double major in other disciplinary programs.
Position Description: We seek a candidate who specializes in Latino/Latina Health. The candidate is expected to strengthen our commitment to teaching and researching the diverse health needs of the Latino/a population in Ventura County, the United States, and internationally. Areas of focus may include, but are not limited to: Latino/a youth and family, women’s health, immigration and health, indigenous health practices, mental health and applied health policy. The candidate will teach lower-division and upper-division courses that serve programmatic needs, and will be expected to develop courses in his/her area of expertise. The person hired will be expected to contribute to the Health Sciences major currently under development. The selected faculty member will also work with our vibrant and active student base of majors and minors and collaborate with various student and community engagement projects. This position will be an academic year appointment in Chicano/a Studies.
Qualifications: Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in the social sciences or health related field, including Chicano/a Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, Social Work, Public Health, Anthropology, or Public Health Administration. ABD candidates will be considered, however Ph.D.must be completed by time of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate potential for excellent undergraduate teaching. Candidates should have a record or detailed agenda of scholarship, experience in or commitment to assessment and advising students, and a strong commitment to team-work, community service learning, and interdisciplinary teaching and learning. Bilingual Spanish speaking ability is also preferred.
