Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | New York, United States |
Position: | Assistant Professor, Associate Professor |
Clarkson University’s Department of Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Sociology, Anthropology, or Geography working at the intersection of human health and the environment. Prospective candidates should have a strong research record. At the Associate level, a demonstrated ability to pursue external funding is expected. Applicants should bring a lively interest in contributing to the programmatic development of Clarkson’s intra-school emphasis in environmental sustainability, health sciences, and to the university’s goals of international and global outreach. Applications from the following health and environment perspectives are especially welcomed: social justice, food, public, rural, reproductive, class/race, and/or global/comparative. The successful candidate will contribute expertise to the university’s MS degree program in Environmental Policy and Governance. The ability to teach courses in quantitative methods and the critical assessment of their use in the social sciences is a plus. The ordinary teaching load is three courses (usually two preps) per semester. The ability to teach an undergraduate course in research methods is a plus; there is ample opportunity for course development in electives. The position requires teaching The Clarkson Seminar twice each fall. Professors develop their own thematic specializations for this mandatory, first year, writing-intensive course.
