SJPS Program Description:
Social Justice and Peace Studies is an interdisciplinary academic program committed to experiential education and inspired by the Catholic Social Teaching tradition. It encourages critical reflection on oppression and injustice, locally and globally, and it examines theoretical and practical approaches to justice and peace. It calls students to social action that transforms the world in the interests of human dignity, equality, sustainability, and peace.
Job Description and Application Instructions:
King’s University College at Western University, a Catholic Liberal Arts College, invites applications for an open-rank position in Social Justice and Peace Studies in the Department of Interdisciplinary Programs effective July 1, 2014, subject to budgetary approval. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in-hand by the date of appointment, and a demonstrated record of teaching excellence. In addition, the successful candidate will have sustained research interests and training relevant for contributing to the mission of the Social Justice and Peace Studies Program.
The Hiring committee will value substantive expertise and teaching ability in one or more of the following: political-economy, critical theory, community and international development. We will favour those with sustained interests in one of the following areas: poverty, gender, indigenous issues, the environment, or human rights. Experience with experiential learning will be considered an asset.
