The University of Kansas seeks to fill a one-year visiting assistant professor position for the 2013–14 academic year in the area of language, culture, literature and society of modern German-speaking Europe (1750 to the present). Appointment is expected to begin August 18, 2013. Duties will include teaching three courses per semester (3:3) at the undergraduate and graduate levels and some advising and committee work in the Department of Germanic Languages & Literatures, and an active research program. Pending funding, the position will either be renewable for an additional year or the candidate will be eligible to apply for a tenure-track position in the following academic year.

(1) Specialization in the language, culture, literature and society of modern German-speaking Europe (1750 to the present).
(2) A Ph.D. or ABD in German/Germanic studies, comparative literature, or a closely related discipline is expected by the start date of the appointment.
(3) Native or near-native language ability in both German and English.
(4) A promising research program in a field of German Studies.
Salary commensurate with experience.
