Position as Assistant Professor / Associate Professor (W 1) of Chinese Studies, Tenure Track Option, in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Tübingen
The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Tübingen invites applications for the position of assistant/associate professor (W 1) of Chinese Studies. The position is initially limited to four years (tenure status), with the possibility of extension by a further two years. The appointed candidate has the option to pursue a tenure-track system at the level of assistant/associate professor (W1) with the option of being appointed to the position of full professor (W3). The position is due to commence on October 1, 2013.
The chosen candidate will be requested to teach four to six hours per week during the winter and summer terms. He/she is expected to carry out research on Chinese Studies independently. Furthermore, the selected person should fulfill the research and teaching obligations required for appointment as full professor at a university or equivalent institution.
Requirements for appointment are an excellent PhD dissertation in a relevant topic, international publications, evidence of third-party grants (fellowship/scholarship and/or projects) and teaching experience. Further requirements are an expertise in China’s role in the history of globalisation from the sixteenth century to the present age, a profound theoretical orientation in order to enhance collaboration with other historical disciplines at the University of Tübingen, a comprehensive familiarity with relevant academic discourses in East and West and an excellent command of modern and classical Chinese, with a stress on the candidate’s individual research focus. The chosen candidate’s duties include teaching of courses that are part of the curricula offered at the department as well as instruction in Chinese source materials language. Willingness to co-operate within the framework of joint research projects of the Institute of Asian and Oriental Studies is expected.
