The Department of History at the University of Maine invites applications for a one year fixed-length position as assistant professor in the field of Early Modern France for the 2013-14 academic year, with potential for re-appointment in the second year. First-year responsibilities include teaching three courses per semester in European history, including a two-semester European civilization sequence and specialized courses in the candidate's field of interest. Preference will be given to historians of Empire. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. by the time of the appointment.
