The Department of History and the Middle East and Mediterranean Studies Programme (MEMS) jointly seek to appoint a Lecturer in Twentieth-Century Middle Eastern History, to join King’s College London with effect from 1 September 2013.
The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching of both units, as well as conducting top-quality research in their area of specialization. Candidates with interests across the region and the century are encouraged to apply. Applications are particularly welcome from those with expertise in the first half of the twentieth century, and/or in the social and cultural history of the region.
The Department of History at King's is a large, top-ranking department, with strengths ranging from the early medieval to the contemporary period, and with a particular emphasis in recent years on extending our global coverage in modern history. MEMS is a fast-growing, thriving and highly inter-disciplinary postgraduate programme currently specialising in the study of politics, security, society, economics and political economy across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The successful candidate will contribute to the undergraduate and MA teaching of the History Department and the various MA programmes on offer in MEMS. They will be expected to attract PhD students and will participate in the intellectual life of both units.
All candidates should have completed a PhD degree, and be in a position to make a strong submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF). They should be prepared to teach both specialist undergraduate and MA modules in their area of expertise.
Interviews will be held on 12 March 2013.
Post duration: Indefinite contract.
Salary: The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications, within the Grade 6 or 7 scale, currently £31,331 to £45,941 per annum, plus £2,323 per annum London Allowance.
