The Programs in Jewish Studies at Smith College and Mount Holyoke College invite applications for a two-year joint Lecturer position in modern Hebrew language instruction, to begin August 2013. The position may be renewable for a third year, pending successful performance review.
This full-time position includes teaching the full-year sequence in elementary Hebrew at both colleges each year, and a single course in intermediate Hebrew that alternates between the colleges. It may also occasionally include working with students at the more advanced levels in a limited number of small independent studies. We seek a dynamic teacher who is comfortable with a Hebrew immersion approach that integrates the latest Hebrew language pedagogy into the classroom, and introduces media and audiovisual technology into learning. The successful candidate will contribute to the interdisciplinary Programs in Jewish Studies by helping to organize lectures, film series, and language tables that enhance the visibility of Hebrew on campus. Native or near-native fluency in Hebrew and an M.A. in Hebrew or a related field are required. Applicants should have an established record of teaching excellence, preferably at the college level.
