SUMMARY: Teach American History surveys as well as Colorado history and American borderlands. Teach 12 semester hours per semester, which may include evening, off-campus, online, and weekend classes. Advise students. Engage in scholarly activities and service activities. May include teaching in the First Year Success Program. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population.
Responsibilities: Teaching:
Teaching involves activities that impart knowledge and critical thinking skills to students. It includes preparing for courses assigned, assessing student progress, conducting curricular review, curricular development, and program review, including the use of new technology, as appropriate.
Advising:
This involves assisting the student to choose career options and a degree program, successfully completing his/her degree, obtaining employment or graduate school placement, and keeping informed of University policies.
Scholarly Activities:
This includes activity that brings enrichment to the faculty member and the profession, results in new material that can be presented to students, as well as new skills which benefit the University community and are related to the faculty member’s assigned responsibilities. It may include investigative work or basic research; infusion of isolated facts with meaning and perspective; interdisciplinary; placing the specialized in broad context; making knowledge broadly accessible; the solving of problems through the use of scholarly expertise, pedagogical research, creative exploration and production; and methods for the transformation and extension of knowledge, so long as such activities enhance the faculty member’s teaching and/or the faculty member’s ability to perform his or her assigned responsibilities.
Service:
Service involves contributions to improve the welfare of the University at any level, and typically unpaid public service to the community or professional organizations which benefits the University.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in History by August 1, 2013.
Preferred Qualifications: The ability to teach American History before 1877, Colorado History, and American borderlands. Experience working with students of color. Demonstrated ability to teach American History survey courses.
RANK & SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience.
