The Historical Office of the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) is seeking to identify potential historians for contract positions that may arise between February and September 2013 at the equivalent of GS 9–13 levels depending on qualifications.
The OSD Historical Office employs approximately fifteen civil servant and contract historians who hold advanced degrees in diplomatic, military, or political history or related fields such as international relations. The major responsibilities of future potential contract historians in the office’s applied history program would include responding to requests for historical information from senior officials in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and writing information papers on special topics on the history of the Department of Defense. Other duties include preparing for and conducting oral history interviews and collecting documents for incorporation into the Public Statements of the Secretary of Defense. Duties and responsibilities for contract positions in the publications program include writing book-length manuscripts on the history of Secretaries of Defense or the defense acquisition process.
