POSITION: Assistant Professor in History
DEPARTMENT: Humanities and Social Sciences
REPORTS TO: Chair, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences
CONTRACT TERMS: Nine-month, tenure track position
PRIMARY DUTY: To teach courses in American History including a general education course and upper-division and graduate courses in American History. Upper-division teaching load may include various periods in American history, depending upon strengths of applicants. Experience in teaching Social Studies at the secondary level is preferred. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching within a comprehensive state university, student and university service, and the promise of scholarly achievement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Teaching a general education survey course in American History
2. Teaching upper-level courses in American History
3. Scholarly research in academic field
4. University service including committee work
5. Student advisement and support\
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Ph.D. in History, American Studies, or Social Science Education
Certification/License:
Experience:College-level teaching experience
Skills:Teaching ability in History/American Studies and scholarly research

Certification/License: Secondary Social studies certification in any state
Experience:Successful full-time teaching position at the college level includingstudent support, departmental and university service, and ongoing scholarship; teaching experience at the secondary level in Social Studies.
Skills:
WORKING CONDITIONS: The position entails classroom instruction in general education and major courses in classes typically ranging from 15 to 60 students. Faculty maintain regular office hours within the department area to support students. Optional work with professional education majors may involve occasional travel for observations and require a driver’s license.

DEPARTMENT: The department of Humanities and Social Sciences offers majors and minors in Geography, Geographic Information Science, History, Humanities, Philosophy, Political Science, Comprehensive Crisis Response, and Social Science Education. In addition, minors are offered in Public History, International Studies, and Criminal Justice. The department offers a certification program in Social Science Education in cooperation with the College of Education and Human Services and the Professional Education Unit.
