Lincoln Land Community College is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position teaching Sociology plus one additional discipline in the Social Sciences to begin fall semester of 2013. LLCC is seeking innovative instructors who place student success and student learning as top priorities. The college is particularly interested in applicants who demonstrate an interest in active learning approaches, student assessment techniques, and utilizing technology in the classroom. The college is also interested in individuals with a commitment to departmental, institutional, and community service.
Duties will include teaching 15 contact hours per semester of assigned classes, labs, studio and internships; preparing lessons and course syllabi; participating in the development and review of curricula and instructional methods and with the articulation of courses, as necessary, in conjunction with advisory committee(s) as appropriate; evaluating and assisting students; keeping accurate records of student performance including following grading procedures; providing students with timely feedback; maintaining office hours; participating in professional development and remaining current in discipline; participating in departmental/institutional operations and program review; creating a learning environment that fosters student success; developing, integrating, evaluating and reviewing student learning outcomes in support of the College’s ongoing accreditation; and contributing to a collegial and collaborative work environment.
The Department of Social Sciences consists of 20 full-time and 47 adjunct faculty and delivers more than 500 sections of instruction annually in the Social Sciences. Members of the department advise several student organizations. In addition to the facilities for the Child Development Center and the Fitness Center, the department has 2 computerized classrooms/labs, and 11 “smart” classrooms equipped with CPU, Proxima projector, Elmo, VCR, DVD, and (for some rooms) a SMART Board. All Classrooms and faculty offices also have Internet access via a T-1 line and are part of a campus local area network.
A master’s degree in Sociology is required, Ph.D. is preferred. Additional graduate-level qualifications to teach a secondary subject within the Social Sciences, such as Psychology, Criminal Justice, Anthropology, Economics, or Early Childhood Education is preferred. Teaching experience, especially at a community college, is viewed favorably. A successful candidate will also have demonstrated experience with instructional applications of computers in the classroom, online delivery of instruction, and other educational technology in the teaching of Sociology and will be expected to utilize these technologies in their instruction at LLCC. Candidates must be able to teach both face-to-face and online sections. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check and drug-screen.
Starting salary is determined by education level and experience and will be between $40,003 and $67,432. The college provides an excellent fringe benefit package and is supportive of faculty development.
