The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies is one of four departments within University College. Through its innovative Colloquy on Integrated Learning, the University College offers students a high-quality, foundational, liberal-arts program, designed to prepare them for their future majors and professional careers. The Colloquy experience instills in the students a desire for lifelong learning, fosters intellectual curiosity, and engenders critical thinking. Interdisciplinary Studies courses emphasize quantitative reasoning and comprehensive use of information technologies in order to develop student’s scientific literacy and global awareness. In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty is expected to have a modest pace of engagement with their discipline/profession; and to become active members of the University and College community.
The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies invites applications for several faculty positions for teaching courses in the required Global Awareness sequence on the Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses, with appointments starting in August 2013. We seek faculty members who possess a strong commitment to teaching the University’s core curriculum, the Colloquy on Integrated Learning, and to developing innovative, interdisciplinary teaching approaches to the studies of cultures and societies.
Successful applicants will be expected to make an immediate contribution to an on-going process of curricular revision and be involved in the design and development of new courses. - A Ph.D., or an M.A.. in Humanities, or the Social Sciences from a recognized university
- Evidence of commitment to excellence in classroom teaching
- Evidence of student-centered approaches to skills development in reading, writing, and critical thinking
- Ability to engage with the challenges and opportunities of teaching in an EFL environment; training in ESL or its equivalent would be an asset
- The ability to integrate computer technology into the curriculum
- A demonstrated interest in promoting the humanities and social sciences to non-majors
- Experience of working with faculty teams on multi-section courses
- Fluency in English is compulsory, and the ability to work among diverse cultures is essential
