FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in the Department of English. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. Participates actively in departmental affairs, including grant writing and curriculum development, and in college-wide activities related to educational issues and pedagogical practices. Provides academic advisement and assistance for students during the semester. Continued scholarly activities are required for tenure and promotion. Some evening and weekend teaching may be required.

There are also opportunities to engage in CUNY-wide centers for multi-ethnic literary and cultural studies. There are over 130 language groups among our students, reflective of the diverse population of Eastern Queens. QUALIFICATIONS
For Assistant Professor:
Ph.D. degree (or earned doctoral degree) in area(s) listed below is required. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
For Instructor:
Master's degree in area(s) listed below and/or active progress toward a Doctorate. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. or active progress toward a doctorate, or equivalent, in ethnic literatures: American/African-American/Caribbean/Hispanic/Asian-American, and/or Post-Colonial Studies with an emphasis in literature or composition, first-year writing, journalism, technology-based pedagogy, and/or ethnic literatures. Excellence in undergraduate teaching at a community college strongly preferred, as well as leadership or mentoring in an area related to diversity, inclusivity, ethics, or social responsibility. Teaching and pedagogical research interests in one or more of the following areas: first-year writing, journalism, technology-based pedagogy, and/or ethnic literatures.

Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
