Department of Japanese Studies
The Department invites applications for an Assistant Professorship. Applicants should (i) have a relevant PhD degree; (ii) be dedicated to teaching; (iii) have an excellent record of research and a record of successful grant applications; (iv) be able to work well as a team member; and (v) be fluent in English and Japanese. Priority will be given to applicants who specialize in Japanese media studies, cultural studies, education, urban studies, and gender studies. Multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural perspectives will be an advantage. Candidates capable of inter-disciplinary, comparative, and transnational research are particularly welcome. Duties include (a) teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; (b) project coordination; (c) mentoring students; and (d) committee work. Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially commencing mid-August 2013 or as soon as possible, which, subject to mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation later.
