The Department of Historical Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga invites applications for a tenure‐stream position in the Women and Gender Studies Program at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2013, by which time the candidate must hold a doctoral degree. The successful candidate will teach a range of undergraduate courses, from the introductory to advanced levels, on the Mississauga campus, and hold a graduate appointment at the Women and Gender Studies Institute on the university’s St. George campus.
Preferred areas of research include one or more of the following specialties as they relate to Women and Gender: Social and Political Thought; Cultural and Literary Representations; Transnational and Diasporic Contexts; Canadian Histories and Perspectives. Candidates must display theoretical mastery of the subject area, as well as engagement with current debates and initiatives in the field. They must provide evidence of excellence in and commitment to both research and teaching, with established or clear promise of distinguished publications in the field of expertise. Demonstrated commitment to students and to university service and community engagement are important qualifications. Experience in program development and the ability to work in a cross‐disciplinary context are also assets in this dynamic and growing program.
