The Department of French and Italian at the University of Colorado invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor, Tenure Track, in the area of nineteenth-century French literature, culture and society. The Department is especially interested in an innovative junior scholar who would enhance the department’s current initiative to augment our existing expertise in literary studies with a fuller inclusion of the cultural and social aspects of France and the Francophone world. Areas of particular focus could include colonial/post-colonial and empire studies, visual cultures, and popular culture, with other subfields and topics also welcomed.
This position is full-time, tenure-track, with a 2/2 teaching load. Includes teaching at both undergraduate and graduate level in a PhD-granting department. Start-up funds (for computer, library purchases, etc.) are provided, as well as summer research support following the first year.
A PhD in French Language, Literature or other relevant fields (History, Art History, Comparative Literature, etc.) by Aug. 1, 2013 is required, along with native or near-native fluency in French, and the ability to teach the basic undergraduate French literature survey course (French 3020, 19th-20th centuries, normally taken by Juniors).
