The American Studies Program at Colby College invites applications for a one-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor in American Studies beginning Fall 2013. We seek an Americanist with a specialty in popular culture and gender/sexuality. The position carries a five-course load. Evidence of teaching excellence and a Ph. D. in American Studies or other closely related interdisciplinary field in hand by September 2013 are required. The successful applicant will teach two core courses in American Studies (including the introductory course, a junior-level methods course, and/or a senior seminar),an elective in gender and popular culture, and two courses in Integrated Studies (IS). IS courses are first-year seminars that are team-taught in clusters of linked topics. Submit as a single pdf a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy and research interests, and writing sample of no more than twenty-five pages to americanstudiessearch@colby.edu. Also send three letters of recommendation to the same address. The application deadline is October 20, 2012. Interviews will be conducted at the American Studies Association meeting in San Juan, PR, November 15-18, 2012.
