The History Department of Adelphi University in Garden City, NY seeks to hire (pending final approval of the search by the Board of Trustees) a tenure-track assistant professor of East Asian history whose research and teaching interests will add new areas of expertise to the existing strengths of Adelphi faculty in East Asian gender, philosophy, religion, and medicine as well as Chinese-American relations, Chinese culture, and twentieth-century Chinese politics. The department particularly welcomes applicants who can teach broadly, including those who also have teaching competencies that would allow them to offer courses on other parts of Asia (Inner, Central or Southeast Asia, for example) or on transregional themes such as environmental history, economic history, history of science, etc. More generally, we seek a new colleague who has a strong commitment to undergraduate education and the potential to publish significant scholarship. The successful candidate is expected to teach East Asian and possibly world history surveys as well as more specific courses in his or her areas of expertise. Ph.D. by time of fall 2013 appointment and some teaching experience required. Deadline for completed application: November 1. Preliminary interviews will be conducted at the American Historical Association meeting in New Orleans in January 2013.
