The Department of Anthropology, University of Toronto, invites applications for a tenure-stream position in Medical Anthropology, preferably with a focus on aboriginal health in North America. Other regional specialties that complement current faculty interests may also be considered. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will begin on July 1, 2013. Applicants will have earned a PhD in Anthropology or a closely related discipline at the time of application or expect to complete it very soon after.
The successful candidate will be expected to have a demonstrated record of excellence in research, potential to develop an independently funded research program, excellence as an undergraduate instructor and potential for excellence as a graduate supervisor. She or he will teach undergraduate courses at the St. George campus in downtown Toronto and participate in the department’s tri-campus graduate program. There are also opportunities to participate in a variety of interdisciplinary programs and centres, such as the Institute of Health Policy, Management & Evaluation, the Aboriginal Studies Program, or the Women & Gender Studies Institute, to name only a few. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The University of Toronto is a large, three-campus institution in a vibrant, multiethnic city and has a very diverse student population. The Department of Anthropology is also a diverse, five-field unit, with 24 full-time faculty at the St. George campus and 43 graduate faculty across the three campuses.
