The Department of Religion and Culture, College of Arts and Science, University of Saskatchewan, invites applications for a limited term appointment at the rank of Special Lecturer with primary specialization in the area of Islamic Studies. The term will commence January 1, 2013 and end on June 30, 2013. The successful candidate should have significant graduate level training in a broad Religious Studies/Islamic Studies Program. Candidates with completed PhD. or doctoral candidates at the ABD level are invited to apply. Demonstrated excellence in teaching will be preferred. Competence in contemporary theoretical issues in Islamic Studies (e.g., Orientalism, post-colonial theories, etc.), and an interest in collaborative interdisciplinary teaching and research are assets. Expertise in modern Islam, gender studies, and the knowledge and ability to teach Arabic are desirable.
The responsibilities of the position include teaching 9 credit units (three 3 cu classes). Classes to be taught may include Introduction to Islam, Islam in the Modern World, and another upper level class to be assigned by the Department.
