Assistant Professor, Modern Arabic Literature and Culture

Assistant Professor of Modern Arabic Literature and Culture, tenure track, starting fall semester 2013. Ph.D. in hand at time of appointment; native or near-native fluency in Arabic required. Area of specialization: Arabic literature and culture since 1800. Candidates are expected to show strong dedication to innovative research in various fields of inquiry that will result in a substantial publication record. The scholar will teach in the undergraduate program on all levels of instruction, including the beginning language program, and in the graduate program. The successful candidate must also be prepared to develop undergraduate courses that contribute programmatically to the instructional mission of the Jewish, Islamic, and Near Eastern Languages and Cultures Department. Excellence in teaching and scholarship required; service commitment (e.g., advising students, participating in department governance, university service) is expected.
