Limited-Term Position in Sociology

The Department of Sociology, St. Thomas University, invites applications for an entry-level, 10-month limited-term appointment, at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin August 15, 2012, pending budgetary approval.

St. Thomas University is an undergraduate, liberal arts institution whose roots are in the faith and tradition of the Roman Catholic Church. With a full-time enrolment of 2,500, its students graduate with Bachelor of Arts, Applied Arts, Education, and Social Work degrees. The faculty members are distinguished teachers, researchers and scholars, and the University holds four Canada Research Chairs.

A PhD in Sociology is required. The successful candidate will teach Introduction to Sociology (a full year course) and a further six credit hours in each semester. The candidate’s course load will be determined in consultation with the Department of Sociology from the following list of course offerings:

• Full year courses (six credit hours): Canadian Society (MWF 12:30); Social Problems I and Social Problems II (MWF 1:30)
• Semester One courses (three credit hours): Deviance (MWF 12:30); Family (WF 9:00); Sociology of Law (TTH 11:30)
• Semester Two courses (three credit hours): Statistics (MWF 1:30); Social Movements (TTH 4:00); Women and Law (MW 2:30).

These courses will be taught at the St. Thomas University campus in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
